Tithes & Offerings:Where do I give tithes and offerings?
There are many unhealthy and non-scriptural teachings are around us in the matter of giving to God. We must listen to the Bible and follow its guidelines in all matters, and this includes our finances.
“Bring all the tithes in to the storehouse” Says the Lord of Hosts.(Malachi 3:10). The full tithes of all our income is expected to be brought into the storehouse. Not 50% of our tithes or a fraction of it, but ALL THE TITHES! Even the smallest fraction of the tithes is to be brought in.
Where is the storehouse? Some are confused and mislead in this. However God has not changed His Word or the principle. Remember it is God's storehouse, not any organisation's, or any denomination's but “ MY house” (Malachi 3:10), says the Lord. It is the place of gathering where God's people ( His children) come to worship together and build up each other and share the good news to the unreached.
This place (house of God) in the Old Testament period was the temple of God in Jerusalem. But for us as followers of Christ in the New Testament age the storehouse is the church ( the community of God's people).
The local church of God is the right place for the tithes and offerings to be brought in.( 1 Corinthians 16:2). Giving to God into the storehouse is the teaching of the Bible. This gives us:
accountability- your gifts and donations are used wisely under the management of local church pastoral and financial administration team
regularity: Your local church family, where you are a member and worshipper motivates you to give systematically to God's work.
Proof of productivity: The fruit of your sacrificial giving ( tithes and offerings) are reflected in the ministry and mission of your church both local and universal.
Tithes and offerings are not to be given anywhere we like, or to whomever we want to. For our tithes and gifts to the service of God to be rewarding and fruitful, it must be directed to and deposited in the local house of God ( the local church where you are a worshipper/member).
